Thoughts Overwhelming

NO MORE! I CAN'T! I WON'T! NO MORE!

He screamed towards Heaven, he mumbled against Hell

His broken heart allowed for nothing else,

The images tormenting him one at a time,

Painful reminders of what could have been,

Sweet memories of paradise lost.

He would have wanted to be flayed alive,

Perhaps the pain would have been more bearable.

He would have wanted to be set on fire,

Perhaps at last he wouldn't feel so cold.

He would have wanted to be drowned,

Perhaps his tears wouldn't feel as bitter.

This was not a time for self reflection,

For the mirror he held was crude, distorted,

That which was shown was wrong,

The memories eating at him from the inside,

Slowly feasting like maggots upon a putrid soul,

A soul with nothing but sorrow left to give.

The worms kept on devouring the last revenants of his soul,

Eating and eating and crawling and soiling the last piece of purity,

The sorrow kept on growing, well fed by this unholy scene,

This rotting carcass of a body held tight by the snakes that grew inside,

Erupting one by one to add to this torment, as if anything could be more painful,

Than the memory of love lost...
